JV: Julian, tell me who would play you in a movie?
I don’t think I’ve ever done anything exciting enough to be in a movie. After enough booze, and on a good day, women tell me I look a bit like Karl Urban. I’ll choose him.
JV: Good choice. Dayjobs before you went renegade?
I worked in Finance. Equities specialist.
JV: You’ve said your muse is a drug dealer. Care to elaborate?
Writing for me is a compulsion. I HAVE to write. Because there’s this big story in my head bouncing around that demands freedom. The story has a champion called Wonde. That’s my muse, it’s short for Wondevil, both a heinous evil horned demon, yet still a sexy beast.
JV: Write at night?
Usually, I’m a bit of a night owl and it’s when Wonde seems most active. It does mean that I’ve occasionally looked up at my computer screen and gone…WTH? Why is the sun coming up?
JV: Tell me about your current Book:
My book is titled Suffrage (World Key Chronicles Book 1). I picked that title because the word “suffrage” literally means ‘the ability to choose’. Without choice, we aren’t free. And the novel, and ultimately the series, explores what are we prepared to do for freedom. The underlying message is Freedom versus Control and the choices we make.
JV: I like it because it reminds me of the Women’s Movement for Voting Equality. What’s the Genre for Suffrage?
It’s a New Adult novel, science fiction with a modern setting.
There’s a team of people centered about someone called Juliet. Juliet and her parents, who are killers, sort-of, I mean they kill people, but only the bad people…oh and some robots. And her brother, who’s meant be dead, he’s in there too. And a sarcastic Australian musician by the name of Snake, I mean Adder, I mean Snake. And – and a pissed off bad guy. Well, he’s a bit broken. And a scientist. And there’s like this ship, no not on the water type ship, and not a spaceship. A different kind of ship. And some of the characters can do strange things, and there’s hints about aliens and and…
JV: Killers, snakes, and spaceships Oh My?
You can read a bit on the website for free. You can even pre-order now! There’s a button!!! I’ll even sign it just for you!!!
Oh, um here it is. Swanky eh?
JV: Is that a dragon on the cover? You didn’t mention that before.
Well, One of the Royals is named The Dragon because…reasons, and there’s other stuff on the cover. Can you see the Compass Rose? And the Ouroborus? And the title kinda hides the Lotus flower and the Sun. They are all the symbols of the Royals, who are my main antagonists. Maybe I should show you the artwork it’s based off?
JV: What is this Mr. Green?
Oh, an artist did an actual painting.
That’s it hanging on my wall. I’m giving it away to one of the first 1000 people to buy a paperback. Look, you can see where she used modeling clay to create a 3d effect on the compass rose, because the first bad guy is Heinrich and that’s his symbol – *Claps hand over mouth* Ooh I shouldn’t have said that. Forget that bit.
JV: What are you working on now Mr. Green?
Um, I’ve nearly finished the first draft of book two which is tentatively titled “Unfettered.” I want to release at least one book a year in the series. I’m also working on some short stories, one of which is accepted into the Futurevision anthology being released later this year called “Bad Hair Day.”
I see. Where is your favorite place to be when you write?
I have a comfy couch. Or if it’s too hot I sit in my garden under my avocado tree. My cat likes to sit next to me and watch me write. She doesn’t have accusing eyes. Well, not often.
What is your favorite lesson you have learned about the business of writing Mr Green?
Never piss off your muse.

JV: I used my Google-fu on you. Dude, what’s with the peerage?
Stalker! Stalker!!! Blame one of my uncles when I was young. He traced our family tree and discovered a secret. Yes, the term “royal bastard” does apply to me. I find all that stuff fascinating, especially when you look back through all the twisty pathways and find out one of your ancestors was killed at a famous battle by Macbeth; and another was attainted for being a very naughty boy who tried to take over England. If you’re wondering about the fancy pants St Aubyn in my name…this is the ancestral home in Cornwall https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/St_Michael’s_Mount
Practically screams “come at me bro” doesn’t it?
JV: Well, I would start Regency romances next with that pedigree. Just sayin’.
